No Daycare? No Problem!

No Daycare? No Problem!

How many of you out there miss workouts from time to time because you can’t find daycare or someone to watch your children? Well if you find yourself in this boat, I have good news for you. Your kids need workouts, just like you need yours. Get creative with your toddler or teenager and you can find so many ways to bond together while exercising. You can tap into their seemingly endless amount of energy to motivate you and get everyone out of the house. Also, showing your toddler or child that you exercise on a regular basis, will help build a solid foundation of healthy living for years to come. Toddlers or younger children especially enjoy doing the things Mom and Dad do. Allow your toddler to impersonate you throughout your workout. This works exceptionally well when you are stretching, doing yoga or other exercise that requires nothing more than your body. You may be surprised how much your exercise and activity can capture your little one’s attention. So, do you have to hit the gym to get a good workout? I would argue no; here are some options for you and your Little Angel to partake in together! 🙂

Here’s a few exercises/activites to do with your kids:

1.) Let them ride their bike while you Jog/Walk along side of them. (Can be a really great option if your child is 4-7)

2.) Take them to the park and you can do Squats, Walking Lunges, Push-Ups, Dips on a bench and other “playground” exercises.

3.) Find a Family or Mommy Boot camp to Attend. (I have taught these classes and they can be a blast. Your children will love the fact that you have involved them.)

4.) Stuck at Home? Turn on some music and have a Dance Party. (It can be as simple as throwing on a few tunes. Dancing and playing with your kids can burn a surprising amount of calories)

5.) Stretching or Weight Routine (without weights for them) that they can participate in.

6.) House Chores – (None of us love to do them, but us Mom’s and Dad’s know what needs to be done. Your kids can be the perfect helpers. Activity is activity, focus on the total calorie burn throughout your day. The more active the better!)

I hope some of these tips are helpful and you are only limited by your own creativity. Remember, your children do not have to be an excuse to miss workouts. You can bond with your kids and get a great workout in the process. I know these strategies have proven invaluable in helping me manage my busy life. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade my Family workouts for anything!

Thanks for being a part of my journey and allowing me to be a part of yours!
